Meet the Team

Stephen Russell – Managing Director

Despite his youthful appearance, unbelievably Stephen is over 50 and married with two children. He joined Clarion in 1988 and prior to this he had been a student at Wilson’s School and then studied Business & Finance at Brighton Polytechnic and for the CIM Diploma in Marketing. He progressed from temporary staff member to Managing Director in 9 years, increasing the merchandise client base from single figures to over five hundred.
During his time at Clarion Golf, Stephen has worked on well over a thousand events and as Tournament Director of the Golf Club Team Championship of Great Britain & Ireland and for the African PGA in Kenya and Zimbabwe. He has also worked as a Press Liaison Officer on the European Tour and as a photographer for Golf Weekly and the Daily Mail. He is a former Chairman of Greens at Woodcote Park Golf Club in Surrey and also served on the committee of the Surrey County Golf Union.
Stephen played golf for Surrey for over 25 years. He played in British Boys, Youths and Amateur Championships and achieved a handicap of plus 1 (one better than scratch). In 2002 Stephen was part of the three man team that won the EGU English Champion Club title and represented England in the European Club Cup, finishing a commendable third place. Team mates Kieran Staunton and Zane Scotland, have both since gained PGA European Tour Cards (which probably explains why they did so well).
In 2007 Stephen ran his first London Marathon. He raised over £6,000 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. In 2015, having forgotten how much it hurt in 2007, he did it again to raise funds for the Sparks charity.

Laura Brown – Office & Administration Manager

2017 was Laura’s 25th year at Clarion Golf! We know for a fact that she has never hit a golf ball in anger (or any other mood) but she does come from a sporty family and is a huge tennis fan. Of course, sitting in an office listening to blokes waffle on about the sport they love for 25 years can actually be educational and so suffice to say, Laura knows an awful lot about golf, the business of golf and all things ‘Clarion Golf’. She also ‘holds the fort’ when Stephen and Jeremy have found yet another excuse to visit a golf club.
Laura is also married with two teenage girls.

Jeremy Walmisley – Sales & Events Manager

Jeremy is also the wrong side of fifty, but is an experienced and successful businessman who has worked primarily in the printing industry for over 25 years. During those years he has also periodically assisted with events staged by Clarion Golf. In 2014 he joined Clarion Golf, combining his knowledge of all things printed, excellent communication skills, business acumen and his expertise in golf.
Jeremy is married with two teenage sons and has a rather generous handicap of 10, formerly at West Hill Golf Club and now at Banstead Downs Golf Club in Surrey. Having also attended Wilson’s School, he and Stephen have been friends for more years than they care to remember. He too is a keen runner and competed in the London Marathon for the first time in April 2015. Foolishly, he beat Stephen by 30 minutes.

Ryan Coles – Events Manager

Although still only 21, Ryan has worked as our Assistant Events Manager for 3 years during the golfing season, while completing his Golf Management Course at Merrist Wood College. Having completed his Degree in May 2018, Ryan has now joined Clarion full time as Events Manager and very much looks forward to applying his knowledge gained through extensive studies to the business environment.
Ryan is a fast learner and communicates very well. He has embraced the new technology used by Clarion Golf in the staging of golf events for it’s ‘blue chip’ clients and has a bright future ahead of him in the golf industry.
Like most lithe young men that play a lot of golf, Ryan hits the golf ball miles, although not always in the same direction, hence his soon to be improved on 13 handicap.
